Soolam & Pariharam
Soolam is the direction considered unlucky for starting a journey on a given weekday. If you must travel that way, take the pariharam before leaving.
| Weekday | Soolam (Direction) | Pariharam |
|---|---|---|
| Sunday | Merku (West) | Vellam (Jaggery) |
| Monday | Kilakku (East) | Thayir (Curd) |
| Tuesday | Vadakku (North) | Paal (Milk) |
| Wednesday | Vadakku (North) | Paal (Milk) |
| Thursday | Therku (South) | Thailam (Balm) |
| Friday | Merku (West) | Vellam (Jaggery) |
| Saturday | Kilakku (East) | Thayir (Curd) |
How to use the pariharam
Before leaving in the soolam direction, take a little of the pariharam item: a bite of jaggery, a spoon of curd or milk, or a touch of balm (thailam) on Thursdays. Then start the journey.
